ECCE is the abbreviation of the English name "European Co-operation in Anthroposophical Curative Education and Social Therapy". This association was set up in 1992 in the Netherlands with the aim of representing persons with special needs and looking after their interests on a European level and doing this out of anthroposophy. Since then parents and professional organizations from almost all countries in Europe have become members. ECCE works with other established organizations on projects which aim to integrate people with special needs into society. ECCE member-organizations provide a wide range of facilities, including education, work, residential care, support of families, home help, and out-patient services. Therapies, such as medical care and treatment, physiotherapy and several forms of art therapy are used.
ECCE is a Non Governmental Organization (N.G.O.). It takes part in several European programmes which aim to co-operate between the European countries. ECCE is one of the founders of the European Disability Forum (E.D.F.), which was constituted in 1997. The mission of the E.D.F. is to promote the equal opportunities and human rights of disabled people (about 37 million) in Europe. It stimulates emancipation and integration into society, by taking part in discussions on a European level and publishing documents. ECCE participates in the ELIANT project to gather 1 million signatures to ensure, in view of growing European integration, that legislative framework conditions are created to safeguard the various aspects of applied anthroposophy, including education, nutrition and agriculture, special needs (curative) education and social therapy, medicine and therapeutic disciplines. |
